Understanding Teen Depression Workshop

Join us Tuesday evening to learn about how depression affects the adolescents in our community. Topics of discussion include how to identify depression in teens, treatment options, and local resources that are available for troubled teens. Parents, teachers, guidance counselors, school staff, and teens are encouraged to come.

Attendees will be meeting with the co-chairs of the LGBTQ subcommittees to discuss our next events, and potential areas of focus for said events.

Marijuana Sub-Committee Meeting

The GLHA marijuana sub-committee will be conducting their first meeting of the new year. The sub-committee will continue to discuss what role they play in recent transitions regarding marijuana legalization. Topics such as their role in consultations, advocacy, education and impact will be discussed at length.

Wear Orange Day: Tabling & Outreach Event for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month; the Lowell Community Health Center will be hosting a table to promote awareness towards teen DV, and to educate the community on the local resources offered to DV victims.

Participants are encouraged to bring orange shirts, nail polish, ribbons, jewelry, shoes, or any other articles of clothing you can think of! Participants may also feel free to post pictures on instagram and twitter, with the hashtags #Orange4Love and #RespectWeek2017.

Car Seat Safety Class

Learn the most common types of car seat misuse and which seat type is right for your child.
This important class, for new and expectant parents as well as caregivers and grandparents, should not be missed. Participants will be given information on how they can better keep their infant or child safe in a moving motor vehicle. Additional topics that will be covered are: the Child Passenger Safety Laws in Massachusetts, the 5 types of child car seats, basic child safety in car seats, and how to properly install car seats in the family vehicle. This course is a must for new or expectant parents who want to keep their children as safe as possible while in the family car! Please note that car seat inspections will not take place on the night of the class. Information on where to have your seat inspected will be provided.

Power of Flowers Project Open House

Comprised of a group of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers, the Power of Flowers project strives to promote healing and offer support to vulnerable populations such as the homeless, elderly, and the critically-ill. They accomplish this through repurposing donations of gently used flowers into stunning bouquets that are delivered to vulnerable individuals.
