Just Be (Dazzled) with Carmen Carrera

Transgender model and actress Carmen Carrera has dedicated her activism to making it better for trans people. Now, Carmen is working with History UnErased (HUE) to bring real, valid and enduring equality through the process of K-12 education. JUST BE (DAZZLING) with Carmen Carrera Gala supports HUE’s groundbreaking work to prepare K-12 schools to infuse LGBTQ history and academic content in core subjects. Monies raised will provide scholarships for K-12 educators to attend HUE’s educator trainings – directly impacting countless youth and creating safer schools and communities. Options to sponsor specific schools and K-12 educators will be available. (History UnErased is a licensed MA Department of Education professional learning and development provider with the express purpose of preparing K-12 schools to integrate LGBTQ-inclusive academic content.)

MIAA: Faces of Addiction: The Opioid Crisis Conference

The MIAA will be hosting a conference on the predicament of widespread opioid use. Workshop topics include: The Nature of Addiction, Teen Brain Development, Signs and Symptoms of Use, and the prevalence of Heroin in Communities.,

 

Spring 2017 CHH Healing Corps Training – Intensive

Beginning on March 13th (Monday), and continuing through to the 18th (Saturday), The CHH will be hosting training sessions for dedicated volunteers who are looking to make a positive impact on the community, and possibly bolster their resumes!

This traditional week-long intensive classroom curriculum gives participants the knowledge and tools to support survivors and be a leader in the work to build communities free from sexual violence. It includes instruction on self-care and reflection, an essential tool necessary for effectiveness and success in the social justice field. Upon successful completion of the training, participants can immediately begin counseling and advocacy work. Guidance and supervision is always provided throughout the duration of the volunteers’ service period.

Overcoming Challenges: Suicide Prevention Across the Lifespan

The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health will be hosting a suicide prevention training forum on Tuesday, April 4th, through Wednesday, April 5th. This training forum is intended to increase awareness about mental health as a public health issue, enhance suicide prevention and intervention skills, and to provide knowledge about the unique needs of suicide survivors.

Vigil in Memory of Srinivas Khuchibhotla

Sonali Lappin of the Indian American Forum For Political Education, a member of APIs CAN!, has organized a vigil to remember the victims of the February 22 Olathe, Kansas shootings. The vigil will honor the life of Srinivas Kuchibhotla.
