Noy Thrupkaew is an independent journalist who has written extensively on human trafficking and labor exploitation since 2006. As an Open Society Fellow in 2010 and 2011, she investigated the largest human trafficking cases in the United States, and explored ways to develop greater accountability in law enforcement initiatives against forced prostitution.

They will be marching from UMass Lowell University Crossing (220 Pawtucket St, Lowell, MA – where we will gather at the main entrance of the building) down to Lowell City Hall (375 Merrimack St, Lowell, MA ).  The walk should not be longer then 20 min and there will be a reception (for those interested with refreshments) to follow in the Lowell City Hall Mayor’s Reception Room.

Steps To Home: Walk to End Homelessness

The Lowell Transitional Living Center’s has changed the date of the 6th Annual Walk to end homelessness from Sunday (previously announced) to SATURDAY JUNE 10th.

Have you always wanted to try spin, but never had the chance? Want to support Advocates’ See Me 5K while getting in a great workout? Join spin instructor and 5K Race Director Joleen Alicea for the 5K Charity Spin ride!

All proceeds will benefit Advocates’ See Me 5K to help end mental health stigma.

Advocates See Me 5K Run/Walk

Run, walk, or volunteer to end mental health stigma at Advocates 4th Annual See Me 5K on Saturday, May 6th. Help spread the message that a person experiencing mental health challenges is a person, not a diagnosis. See the person! See the individual!

Bring the whole family! Kid activities include a fun run, face painting, games, and more. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

 

Dinner with Our Docs: Women and Heart Disease

More women die every year of heart disease than from all types of cancer combined. Sadly only 13% of them are aware that it is the number one killer of women. Join Dr. Miret Ibrahim, board-certified cardiologist, and learn the difference between fact and fiction when it comes to heart disease and women.

Attendees will hear about the different signs and symptoms of heart disease and heart attack experienced by women, as well as, risk reduction and prevention.

A heart healthy dinner will be provided.

 

Just Be (Dazzled) with Carmen Carrera

Transgender model and actress Carmen Carrera has dedicated her activism to making it better for trans people. Now, Carmen is working with History UnErased (HUE) to bring real, valid and enduring equality through the process of K-12 education. JUST BE (DAZZLING) with Carmen Carrera Gala supports HUE’s groundbreaking work to prepare K-12 schools to infuse LGBTQ history and academic content in core subjects. Monies raised will provide scholarships for K-12 educators to attend HUE’s educator trainings – directly impacting countless youth and creating safer schools and communities. Options to sponsor specific schools and K-12 educators will be available. (History UnErased is a licensed MA Department of Education professional learning and development provider with the express purpose of preparing K-12 schools to integrate LGBTQ-inclusive academic content.)
