Lowell Senior Center District Attorney Presentation

Join District Attorney Marian Ryan July 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Lowell Senior Center 276 Broadway St, Lowell, MA.

Have you ever had an operation for which you were prescribed pain medication, such as a hip or knee replacement?  Do you suffer from chronic pain, such as arthritis or osteoporosis?  Chances are you have been prescribed an opioid, even if you were unaware (e.g., Percocet, Vicodin, OxyContin, Fentanyl).

Whether you actively take an opioid or have had a prescription for one in the past, there is important information about which seniors need to be aware.  With the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the midst of an unprecedented public health epidemic, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has developed a safety program for senior citizens to raise awareness about the opioid crisis, specifically how it directly impacts them.

District Attorney Ryan will discuss the far-reaching effects of this problem as well as offer tips on how to manage prescription medication using the File of Life program.  In addition, she will talk about ways to safeguard medication from theft; how to properly dispose of unused or expired medication; how to identify signs of drug addiction in a loved one, and get them help.  Complimentary File of Life refrigerator magnets and personal wallet cards will be distributed to seniors who attend.

Tewksbury’s 7th Annual Bike Safety Rodeo & Health Fair

Date: Sunday, June 4, 2017
Time: 10:00am-1:00pm
Location: Tewksbury Memorial High School parking lot,
320 Pleasant Street, Tewksbury, MA

The Tewksbury Police Department & Board of Health, in conjunction with local businesses and community groups, would like to announce its Annual Bike Rodeo & Health Fair. This bicycle safety event will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Tewksbury Memorial High School parking lot, 320 Pleasant Street.

Bicycle safety is critically important and helmets are the law for riders aged 16 and younger. The Bike Rodeo will have a station for bikes to be inspected for safety, helmet fittings, and an obstacle course designed to teach bicycle safety. Each child will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win donated prizes.

Involvement from the Tewksbury business community would be appreciated if possible as this is a high visibility outreach event. Suggested opportunities include: Volunteering time to staff a table while wearing your merchant logo shirts, Donating merchant coupons to be used as rewards for children “caught” wearing their  bicycle helmets, Donating a bicycle (obtained inexpensively at local discount stores for $50) or other bicycle related equipment ( horns, reflectors, first aid items), or Donating items to help with the rodeo set up such as balloons, popcorn station, arts and crafts, snacks, raffle items, etc.

This year we are excited to have the Health Fair join us to make this event even bigger and better! This will be a fun event for the entire family!!

As always, thank you in advance for your support. We appreciate your interest in helping keep the children of Tewksbury safe!
